Professor Jennie Hudson is one of Australia’s leading experts in child and adolescent mental health and an internationally recognised researcher in the prevention and treatment of anxiety disorders in children. As Director of Research at the Black Dog Institute and Professor at UNSW Sydney, she has dedicated her career to improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people through innovative research, early intervention and evidence-based treatment programs.
A Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, Professor Hudson has authored more than 200 scientific publications and led groundbreaking clinical trials that have helped transform the understanding and treatment of childhood anxiety. Her research focuses on ensuring children and families can access effective support as early as possible, helping create better mental health outcomes throughout life.
Professor Hudson also has a meaningful connection with Rotary and Australian Rotary Health. Funding from Australian Rotary Health has supported her research into the mental health of children aged 0–12 years, including innovative approaches to improving treatment for childhood anxiety. Her work demonstrates how investment in mental health research can translate into practical interventions that improve the lives of children and their families.
At the 2027 Rotary District 9685 Conference in Mudgee, Professor Hudson will share insights from her work and highlight the importance of research, prevention and early intervention in improving children’s mental health. Her presentation has a special connection to the District Governor’s Partner Project, which is raising funds for an Australian Rotary Health PhD Scholarship focused on mental illness in children aged 0–12 years.
Her story is a powerful example of how Rotary, research and community action can work together to create healthier futures for Australian children and families.
