Haran Ramachandran OAM – Rotary Leader, Humanitarian and District Governor-Elect

Haran Ramachandran OAM brings more than four decades of Rotary experience, community service and international humanitarian leadership to the Rotary District 9685 Conference 2027 in Mudgee, NSW.

Haran’s Rotary journey began in Sri Lanka in the 1980s as an Interactor before continuing in Australia during the 1990s as a Rotaractor with the Seven Hills Club. In 2001, he was inducted into the Rotary Club of Kellyville by the late Peter Casey, who became a lifelong mentor and supported Haran through three terms as Club President.

Today, Haran is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Norwest Sunrise and has been selected to serve as District Governor of Rotary District 9685 for 2027–28.

The Rotary Foundation has been at the heart of Haran’s service for many years. He has served on the District Rotary Foundation Committee for nearly a decade, including as Grants Chair and currently as District Rotary Foundation Chair.

His commitment extends well beyond Australia. Haran has successfully led and coordinated more than 10 Rotary Foundation Global Grant projects in India and Sri Lanka, while collaborating with Rotary clubs around the world on humanitarian projects in Bolivia, Kenya, Nigeria and the Philippines.

These projects have supported communities through initiatives spanning health, education, clean water and sustainable community development, demonstrating the extraordinary impact that can be achieved when Rotarians connect across borders to create lasting change.

Haran and his wife, Ahsha, are passionate champions of The Rotary Foundation. Together they are Level 4 Major Donors and Level 4 Bequest Society members and actively support other important Rotary initiatives, including ROMAC and Australian Rotary Health.

Professionally, Haran is an experienced information technology leader with almost 30 years in the IT industry. He now specialises in helping small and medium enterprises strengthen their cybersecurity and information security, assisting organisations to better understand and manage the challenges of an increasingly connected digital world.

He also maintains a strong interest in mortgage brokering, applying his analytical and problem-solving skills to helping families work towards greater financial security.

Based in Sydney, Haran and Ahsha are proud parents of two daughters. Family, service and creating opportunities for others remain central to Haran’s life.

For Haran, Rotary is much more than an organisation.

It is a lifelong journey of service, connection and global impact.
