Cristina Benedek is a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar and international development leader whose career demonstrates the lifelong impact of Rotary's investment in people, service, and leadership.

More than two decades ago, a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship opened the door to opportunities that would shape Cristina's professional and personal journey. Today, she is recognised as an accomplished international development specialist, evaluator, broadcaster, and community leader whose work has strengthened communities across Australia, Timor-Leste, and the Asia-Pacific.

Throughout her career, Cristina has partnered with some of the world's leading development organisations, including the Asian Development Bank, World Bank Group, USAID, and Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Her expertise spans international development, program evaluation, governance, social impact, and community engagement, helping governments, organisations, and communities achieve sustainable outcomes.

Cristina's passion for communication and inclusion also led her to SBS Audio, where she serves as Executive Producer of the Tetum Language Program, connecting and informing Timorese communities throughout Australia while amplifying diverse voices and perspectives.

A dedicated Rotarian, Cristina previously served as President of the Rotary Club of Dili in Timor-Leste and is now an active member of the Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains. She continues to support Rotary's mission through community service, fundraising, mentoring, and leadership development.

Beyond Rotary, Cristina contributes her expertise through board roles with the Edmund Rice Foundation Australia and the ALOLA Foundation in Timor-Leste, supporting education, empowerment, and community development initiatives.

Cristina's story is a powerful example of Rotary's enduring impact and will be sharing her journey at the Rotary District 9685 Conference in Mudgee. The scholarship that once supported her education became the catalyst for a lifetime of service, leadership, and global citizenship. Her journey reflects the Rotary values of Service Above Self, demonstrating how one opportunity can create a ripple effect of positive change across communities, countries, and generations.
